The Compassionate Obstetrician
The Compassionate Obstetrician is a federally recognized non-profit(501C3) meaning that any contributions made to the foundation is deductible in federal tax returns as a charitable contribution to the extent allowed by law.
In the inaugural year, 2018, our main focus for this non-profit is homeless women living in shelters. The Compassionate Obstetrician just pledged 20,000 to the Shannon West Youth Homeless Shelter in Las Vegas to help increase their budget so they can take on more residents in the shelter. In addition, The Compassionate Obstetrician is also sponsoring a semi-monthly life skills group at the shelter focused on Women’s health.
We started up this group and have led two sessions so far, both of which were extremely well received. These young women, now homeless, have a significant number of unmet gynecological needs and questions they’ve never had answered. Everytime we go they are burning with a million questions.
According to an article in the Las-Vegas Review Journal (December 12, 2017), there were 6,490 homeless people in Las Vegas either living in shelters or on the streets. This number was based on data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s annual report. Las Vegas was ranked number eight among all cities in the United States in terms of the homeless population. Las Vegas was the smallest city in the top ten ranking in terms of homelessness.
So, how can you help? For 2018, The Compassionate Obstetrician has pledged $20,000 to the HELP of Southern Nevada’s Shannon West Homeless Youth Center in Las Vegas. These funds are crucial to the shelter’s goal of increasing their budget so they can take on more residents in the shelter. In addition, The Compassionate Obstetrician is also sponsoring a semi-monthly life-skills group on site focused specifically on Women’s health.
